2015 was an amazing year for all of The Auction Divas. We are honored and humbled to help such amazing organizations exceed their fundraising goals. Here are just a couple of quotes:

“Shelly, I wish to extend a huge thank you for being part of the exciting auction at our recent 2015 Spreading Wings Gala: Apollo 13. This was our most successful Gala ever, due in large part to your support”.
Mark Hyatt

“I have had the privilege and honor to have partnered with Shelly St John and Libby Pollack at numerous fundraising events I have lead as a Director of Development. Their thoughtful suggestions and tested knowledge have led us to beat projections at every time. From planning to auction packaging, community contact and unique and fun style, they truly cannot be beat. I would move event dates to ensure they were part of my event because of the success they bring to tour team. I can always count on them to get every dollar in the room.”
Andy Szekeres
Director of Fund Development

School-Focused Auction Seminar Oct 20, 2015 in Denver

SAVE THE DATE – October 20th, 2015, Denver

School-Focused Fundraising Auction Seminar

Every year our preschools, elementary, middle and high schools struggle with teacher, extra curricular and general program cuts. To offset these budget shortfalls many school PTA’s and Parent Organizations turn to private school fundraisers and galas to bridge the gap.

The real question is, how can these hardworking organizations and committees ensure the highest level of giving at their event? It’s simple — the Education Trifecta.

Join us on October 20th in the Denver Metro area and we’ll not only explain the Education Trifecta, we’ll give you specific examples so you can implement all three components at your next Auction Fundraiser.

Here is a quote from one group who followed every suggestion that we made:

“We used The Auction Divas for our last School Auction. Our goal was $38,000 and under Shelly’s guidance we made $71,500. Everyone had a great time and can’t stop talking about our next auction. I completely believe that the reason we were so successful is because of The Auction Divas, you were our success”.
Kory Foa, Auction Chair, Carl Sandburg Elementary

If this seminar is not for you, please feel free to pass it on to anyone you may have interest.

Devoted to Your Fundraising Growth

This past Saturday was a good night for The Auction Divas. Libby Pollack brought in a home run at the Bergen Meadow Elementary School Auction. Shelly and her team helped adults with developmental disabilities with Glory Community get much closer to their goal of building a new home for women. What a generous community we live in, thanks Denver!

Thank you calls are KEY to keeping donors happy!

Throughout the year, we represent 45 to 60 organizations at Auction from nonprofits to schools to churches. We try to support them equally through Colorado Gives Day, our social media programs and in most any way they ask. I recently attended a luncheon for Dolls for Daughters and Kenzi’s Kids, and as I made my meager donation, I so wished that I could more. A few days after the event, I got a phone call from one of their volunteers thanking me for my for my support and my donation, WOW, that call was really powerful and that one short, simple conversation of thanks made an immeasurable impact on how I feel about the organization and their commitment to their donors (small or large). I guess what I really felt was valued, even as a small donor. I recommend this simple strategy to ALL nonprofits!

Meaningful verses Counter- Productive Recognition . . .

The 2014 Burk Donor Survey expanded on three topics explored in the 2013 study – acknowledgment, communication and recognition and their impact on donor retention and generosity. Additionally, this year’s Study investigated some issues that are challenging for both donors and fundraisers, including:

  • What donors feel is an appropriate cost of fundraising
  • How donors define “administrative overheads”
  • The reasons why donors stop giving to causes they once supported
  • Whether donors appreciate or dislike having dollar amounts or ranges suggested in appeals
  • Whether donors give generously or hold their philanthropy back when they give initially to a cause they have not supported before
  • The relative influence of restricted/unrestricted appeals on giving

Once you download the executive summary here, check out page 12 that talks about Meaningful verses Counterproductive Recognition!

For all you appeal writers, pay attention to page 11 under Fundraising Appeals, where the report talks about who is influential in attracting a donors first gift stating “Celebrities or other high profile individuals who are not core volunteers are not particularly influential.”

Urban Peak – Wow, What a Success!

It was distinct pleasure to serve as Urban Peaks Guide to Fundraising at their latest Gala in early March . . . There were four types of Hero’s in the room that night:

First, the Youth who have come through the Urban Peak programs to find their success;

Second, the Honorees that do so much for our community;

Thirdly, the staff and everyone who has volunteered to serve our homeless youth; and

Fourth, each and EVERY ONE of the guests who gave so generously to serve our 2400 homeless youth in Denver.

Many thanks to all who attended and participated,

Shelly St. John, Founder, Lead Auctioneer, The Auction Divas

Donor Drive has just released The State of Peer-To-Peer Fundraising 2015 report which looks at the hottest fundraising trends for the year. Our Growing Team

I often see Facebook posts dogging the sentiments of being Blessed and feeling Gratitude, however, there are no other “two” words that can describe how The Auction Divas feel today. Our Auctioneer Libby Pollack is out in the field booking and calling auctions, Abby Spiwak, Lead Divaette is working with Blacktie; we’ve recently added Susan Walker as Bid Recorder and Leslie L. Juniel  as Emcee/Divaette and Auctioneer in training.

My humblest Thank You to our clients who are making this growth possible and to each of our team members who make The Auction Divas such a great organization to be a part of . . .

Turn Your 55% into WINNING Bidders – The Auction Divas

In our last message to you, we rolled out the 5%, 40%, 55% RULE. If you are an event planner, development director, or a committee member, you probably thought “yes, that sounds about right, but how do we reach that 55% of our audience”.
What we shared with you is that if you structure one of your live auction items to sell 20, 30, 40 or 50 times that you would turn your 55% into active, winning bidders!
We have honed three strategies to accomplish this:
1) High Bidders Choice
2) Fair Market Value
3) Signature Items
Check out this chart and you’ll see the difference you can make on event night utilizing this approach.
